The OPEN LAB 2015 is the second edition of an open laboratory for young European artists that were part of the Between Us project in 2012. Aim is to open up connections between these youngsters and the community of Viborg. We are working with theatre of the senses, finding a ‘language’ that everybody can understand because it is universal, a language in which we can communicate and share our values and questions.
Theatre of the senses allows one to experience communication through the senses in a direct personal and individual way. This sensorial communication is the same for everyone: there is almost no barrier of age, social status, nationality or cultural customs. It is a direct way of connecting to people. An invitation to come and play!

12/03/2015: Workshop Sensorial leadership @ The Fairweather House in Woodstock, Cape Town (S-A)

In cooperation with Eline Van Coillie (BE).

A group of 30 fresh students and a magnificent space. All stars were right for a vibrant day of sensorial games and indoor-outdoor experiences. The group as many coincidental audience members enjoyed self-made sensorial journeys, based on first child memories. Certain participants were even so brave to become audience for some very sweet and young creators… A warm-hearted day!!

11/03/2015: Workshop ‚The objectivized body’ @ The Breiten Bach Sentrum in Wellington (S-A)

In cooperation with Eline Van Coillie (BE).

In nearly three hours we explored the expressive modes of body parts and objects as a prolongation of the own body.  The drama group of the Breyten Bach Sentrum is a group of well-experienced performers. Though it was a wonderful surprise that they created so intense and touching movement material, in such a short time!

If Only I had a Heart @ Arena Festival der Jungen Künste, Erlangen

July 1st till 6th you can find the Oortocht members in Erlangen where they made a coproduction for the Arena Festival der Junger Künste. Tickets and information for the festival are still available on the website ( Arena Festival website ) or at the box office.

“Last year, the prize for coproduction was given to the Belgian performance-group Oortocht. This year, the artists Brecht Hermans, Isabelle Stockmans, Marieke Breyne and Thomas Vermaercke will prepare a performance with the support of students of the FAU. The performance is inspired by the Swedish TV series “Äkta Människor”, also known as “Real Humans”. The discussed topic is the human fear for beings that are nearly human, like zombies or humanoids. The main focus lies on the human body and its transformation to a “hubot”, its influences of speed and presence as well as the direct interposition of fear of hubots and the overcoming of it. Surreal images and humour present the body as instrument and the hidden fascination for it.”
